TEHRAN in 1960s

Sepahsalar Mosque was built during the Qajar period. Next to it on Baharestan Square were the old and newer buildings of the parliament. Red taxis were abundant in central Tehran. The right-side of the picture was the start of the "Sar-Cheshmeh" district, which was one of the two centers in Tehran for distributing fruit and vegetable produce.

Today: The building has been repaired (the dome is now turquoise) and is used for official religious gatherings. Compared to today's traffic flow passing through the same street (one-way now of course), the above seems like just a sub-urban traffic. The color of the taxis is now light orange, and sure, no Mercedes taxis now! The fruit and produce stores and stands are still there; a block to the south (Cyrus Ave.) one can still find a handful of stores selling traditional Persian musical instruments.
